Management model at IACA Equine to teach, research and disseminate: articulation between civil society organization and Argentine public university.

Abstract

Since the creation of the Chair of therapies and Assisted Activities with Animals (TAACA) in the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the National University of Rosario (UNR) in 2010, and based on strategies and management objectives, this subject begins to interact with the team Equine Assisted Interventions (IACA Equine), Equine Therapy, from the Todos los Chichos Foundation. This Foundation was created in 2003, with the institutional objective of working for the integral inclusion of people with disabilities, especially children, adolescents and young people. Based on the social role of the public university, a very strong management of universitary actors and NGO, and the formalization of an agreement, a series of articulations are established between the members of the TAACA Chair, the IACA Equine team, and the Therapeutica Educational Center of the aforementioned Foundation. This articulation allowed us to carry out extension projects, postgraduate courses, volunteer assistants, research projects resulting in the interaction between teachers and university students with people with disabilities and older adults from various public institutions or civil society. (Traditional center, school of special, common and secondary, day centers; residences for the elderly, geriatrics); also participating in them, health and educational professionals. Throughout this journey, interventions with domestic animals, especially with equines, are the essential substrate for carrying out the activities/projects mentioned, as well as socio-recreational, educational, therapeutic approaches, with highly positive results. In this connection, civil society organizations provide clinical cases, professionals from various disciplines, access to vulnerable populations etc., while the public university provides human resources training, scientific evidence and a wide range of dissemination, among others, providing comprehensiveness to the development of equine-assisted interventions.
